PDF Text Extractor

Load a PDF and the text of every page appears in the box below within a few seconds. Copy it with one click or download it as a .txt file named after the original document. Tick the page separator option to insert a "--- Page N ---" line before each page so you can still tell where one page ends and the next begins.

The tool reads the text layer the PDF already contains and rebuilds the lines from the position of each fragment on the page. That works well for documents exported from Word, Google Docs, LaTeX or a web browser. Multi-column layouts, tables and text placed over images may come out in a different order than you read them, so check the result before you rely on it.

A scanned PDF is a stack of photographs, not text, so this tool returns nothing for it. There is no OCR step. If your file came from a scanner or a phone camera, you need an OCR tool to recognise the characters first. Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened either; remove the password and try again.

The file stays on your computer. Extraction runs entirely inside your browser and nothing is uploaded, so you can safely work with contracts, bank statements and internal reports.
