The rates come from the European Central Bank, which publishes one set of reference rates on each working day at around 16:00 CET. This tool downloads that file once a day and serves it as a static file, so using the converter costs nothing and works at any traffic level. The date the rates were published is shown next to the result, and if the file ever falls more than four days behind, the tool refuses to show figures rather than quietly giving you stale ones.

These are reference rates, not live market prices. Banks and exchange bureaus add their own spread, so the amount you actually receive will differ, usually by a percent or two for major currencies and more for the rest. Use this for estimating, comparing and checking invoices, not for deciding a trade.

Only the rate table is downloaded from the server. The amount you type is never sent anywhere and the arithmetic happens in your browser, the same as every other tool on this site.
