Image Compressor

Compress JPEG, PNG and WebP images to a target file size such as 500 KB, or pick a quality level. Batch several photos at once, entirely in your browser.

Files are processed in your browser and are never uploaded to a server.

How to use

Drop in one or more images and choose how you want them compressed. In target-size mode, type the size you need, such as "500 KB" or "2 MB", and the tool searches for the highest quality that fits under it. If even the lowest sensible quality is still too large, it shrinks the dimensions by 10% at a time until the file fits. In quality mode you set the level yourself and see the resulting size immediately.

Target-size mode is what you want when a form or an email system has a hard limit, such as attachments under 1 MB or a profile picture under 200 KB. Quality mode suits a batch of photos for a website, where 75 to 85 is usually indistinguishable from the original at a fraction of the size. Each result shows the size before and after, the percentage saved, and a side-by-side preview so you can judge for yourself.

How does this differ from the Image Resizer? Use the resizer when you need specific pixel dimensions, for example 1200 pixels wide for a banner. Use this compressor when you care about the file size in kilobytes and want the tool to work out the settings. PNG input is written as WebP by default so transparent areas survive; pick JPEG explicitly if the recipient cannot open WebP.

Nothing is uploaded. The files are read and re-encoded by your browser, and are gone when you close the tab. Files up to 50 MB each are accepted.
