BMI ignores muscle mass and body composition. It is a screening figure, not a diagnosis or medical advice.

How to use

Enter your height and weight and the calculator returns your BMI to one decimal place. Switch between centimetres and kilograms or feet, inches and pounds with the toggle at the top; the result is the same either way, because everything is converted to metric before it is calculated.

Two sets of categories are shown side by side. The WHO scale treats 18.5 to 24.9 as the normal range, 25 to 29.9 as overweight and 30 and above as obese. The Asia-Pacific scale, which is what health checks in Korea, Japan and China use, lowers the cut-offs: 23 and above counts as overweight and 25 and above as obese, because the same BMI carries a higher metabolic risk in East Asian populations. Read the one that matches the guidelines used where you live.

The healthy weight range tells you the weight span that would put you in the normal band for your height, under each standard. It is a quick way to see how far you are from the boundary rather than a target to chase.

BMI is a rough screening number. It does not know how much of your weight is muscle, so athletes often score as overweight while carrying little fat, and it says nothing about where fat sits on the body. It is not a diagnosis and not medical advice; talk to a doctor before changing your diet or training because of a number here. Nothing you type is sent to a server.
